Accredited Workplace Lighting Measurements
Adequate lighting at workstations is a legal obligation under the Labour Code and OHS regulations. Measurements cover illuminance (En, in lux) and the uniformity ratio (U0 = Emin/Emean) — compared against minimum values required by PN-EN 12464-1 for specific workstation types. OIKOS performs lighting measurements under PCA accreditation No. AB 934 (PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025), with reports accepted by the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP).
Why OIKOS for Lighting Measurements
Three reasons our lighting measurements stand out — backed by independently verified competence:
- AB 934-accredited results — accepted by the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP)
- Compliance assessment against PN-EN 12464-1 — a clear answer: compliant or non-compliant
- We run PT-OS — the proficiency testing programme for lighting intensity measurement
From Illuminance to Uniformity — PN-EN 12464-1 Compliance
OIKOS laboratory performs measurements in production halls, offices, warehouses, laboratories and all other work premises. The report includes a measurement point map, results for each point, and a compliance assessment against PN-EN 12464-1.
Measurements cover illuminance (En, in lux) and the uniformity ratio (U0 = Emin/Emean). Both parameters are compared against minimum values required for specific workstation types — over 200 categories defined in the norm.
OIKOS is one of the few laboratories in the region organising the PT-OS (lighting intensity) proficiency testing programme under PT 010 accreditation. Independent result verification through inter-laboratory comparisons confirms the reliability of our measurements.

FAQ
Lighting Measurement Questions
How often must workplace lighting be measured?
Regulations do not specify a fixed frequency, but measurements should be conducted when starting a facility, after changing workstation layouts, replacing light fittings or bulbs, and after changes to the premises. In practice — every 2–3 years or after any installation upgrade.
What are the minimum illuminance values per PN-EN 12464-1?
Depends on visual task type: general circulation areas — 100 lx; office work — 500 lx; precision visual work (e.g. quality control, jewellery) — 1,000–2,000 lx. The norm specifies values for over 200 workstation types.
Does the measurement cover emergency lighting?
The standard OHS measurement covers basic/working lighting. Emergency lighting is governed by a separate normative scope (PN-EN 1838) and can be subject to a separate measurement service — please enquire.
